April 5th, 2023 – The City of Norfolk is committed to supporting our service members, military spouses, and caregivers, and prides itself as a host company for the Hiring Our Heroes Military Spouse Fellowship Program. Hiring Our Heroes, along with other military fellowship programs that are available in Norfolk, provides unique opportunities for participants to gain experiential knowledge in the workforce, with the goal of securing permanent positions after an initial internship period. Our very own office manager Alaa Sabbagh celebrated her graduation from the program this month and has officially began her permanent position in our department.
Norfolk’s strong military presence makes up a large part of our community, and our city is committed to offering our hand in appreciation by providing opportunities to those who have sacrificed for our country, including their family members. Supporting our service members and their families is a key part of building a strong, diverse, resilient community. Through the support of our military liaison, Len Remias, participants of Hiring Our Heroes are provided with mentorship and assistance in preparing their application, as well as ongoing support throughout their training experience. Weekly check-ins ensure participants feel valued and supported throughout their time with the program.
