In late September, thirty job seekers participated in Amazon’s virtual employment open house.  The event was hosted by Norfolk Works in partnership with Norfolk Human Services’ CARES TEAM, USI-People First, and NRHA. Hampton Roads Workforce Council also worked with the partners to help promote the event. Those in attendance learned more about Amazon, upcoming opportunities, paid tuition, and how to be successful candidates.

Amazon now has several facilities in the Hampton Roads area, including one of its newest located at 1400 Sewells Point Road in Norfolk. Amazon expects the Norfolk fulfillment facility to bring approximately 200 jobs to the community within the next 2 years. The Norfolk location currently hires for 4-day workweeks, working 10-hours per day. The pay ranges from $15-16+/hour depending on the shift. Amazon is also giving a $100 incentive to new hires that have their COVID-19 vaccinations.

Norfolk Works was launched in December 2016. It is designed to align economic and workforce development efforts, champion the recruitment of diverse Norfolk talent to support business attraction, retention and expansion, and collaborate with our workforce partners to help Norfolk citizens prepare for and connect to in-demand employment opportunities.  Follow this link for more information.
