Local Business Opens in MacArthur Center

Owner’s Mission is to Give Back to CHKD

Fresh Dawgs hot dog cart opened for business the summer of 2019. They very quickly became a fan favorite at festivals and mobile food sites for their all beef and vegan hot dogs. Fast forward to the summer of 2021 and a permanent spot on Level 3 in MacArthur Center.  The ribbon was officially cut on August 26th with the help of the owner’s husband, their five children and Norfolk City Councilwoman Courtney Doyle.

When Lakira Greene’s son Jared was just 2 months old he was admitted to Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters for whooping cough where he spent the next month under their expert care.   She and her husband were busy running their new business along with raising their children, and they came to rely on CHKD to care for their young son.  Lakira shared that one nurse in particular would call and send photos regularly to let them know how their son was doing. Nurse Kat is now considered a part of their family and was at the the ribbon cutting along with the Greene’s son, aka “Fresh Frank”, who has fully recovered. And, he showed up dressed up as the store’s mascot!

In an effort to give back and show her appreciation for the staff at CHKD, Lakira will be selling raffle tickets for $2 each and all the proceeds will go to CHKD. Once a month, a winner will be drawn and will receive a month’s worth of hot dogs.  The lucky winner can enjoy one hotdog a day for one month. A delicious prize that keeps on giving!  Plus, every Monday is Military Monday, when members of the military can enjoy a 20% discount.

Fresh Dawgs brings a unique and nostalgic feel with undeniably amazing service and over the top quality.
