Norfolk receives two workforce awards in support of military veterans, transitioning service members and military spouses.

– 2021 Virginia Values Veterans (V3) Awards were announced during the 2021 Virginia Veterans and Military Affairs Conference last month. The Virginia Department of Veterans Services (VDVS) selected the City of Norfolk for the 2021 V3 Hire VETS Now Fellowship Award in recognition for their exceptional commitment of hiring Virginia military veterans, transitioning service members, and their spouses.

– 2021 HIRE Vets Medallion Award from the Department of Labor will be presented virtually on November 10 (the day before Veterans Day). This is the only federal award recognizing exceptional achievement in veteran employment. By meeting the criteria required for a Gold Medallion Award, City of Norfolk demonstrated both patriotism and recognition of the value veterans bring to the workplace.

Norfolk’s Military Affairs Liaison, Len Remias, Captain, U.S. Navy (Ret.), directs efforts to make Norfolk the best city in the nation for active duty military, National Guard members, reservists, veterans, and their families to live, work, recreate, gain knowledge and maintain their physical and mental health.
