On the heels of the debut of their new online resource Export Portal, the Norfolk Department of Economic Development was joined by federal and regional partners to host their first regional export event. The virtual event was on September 8th, 2021 and attracted thirty-two registrants from across the region.

The Norfolk Department of Economic Development, the Hampton Roads Alliance and the U.S. Small Business Administration joined forces for a one-hour webinar that showed participants how to get access to working capital to help local businesses interested in getting started in exporting.

The attendees were presented information on how to expand into global markets and introduced to several different services and products to help them expand their export capabilities.

A few of the programs outlined in the free webinar included the Export Working Capital Program (EWCP) loan.  This loan program offers advances to fund export transactions, has a low guaranty fee, and a quick processing time.  The SBA’s State Trade Expansion Program (STEP), offers financial awards to help small businesses with export advancement. Development staff also gave a virtual tour of their newest tool to assist exporters, Norfolk’s Export Portal, which has all the Department’s program and partner information in one spot.
