Newly released concepts reveal Community Center, Pool, & Playground

NORFOLK, VA – The Breeden Company has released new design principals for the proposed Poplar Hall Development which includes a new 6,000 square foot Poplar Hall Community Center with outdoor pool and cabana, a large meeting room, breakout rooms, a kitchen, a fitness room, and restrooms. The development also includes new single-family homes and new small scale multifamily homes.

The proposed design allows access to the apartments without increasing traffic along Piping Rock Road or through the existing neighborhood. The project will also enhance the existing trail network within the neighborhood and connect to Poplar Hall Park and the Tide Light Rail Station.

“Community involvement is critical to the success of all of our neighborhoods, and it is very encouraging that resident input is guiding this prospective addition to Poplar Hall,” said Councilwoman Danica Royster. “We are looking forward to continued collaboration with residents and city administration as this project evolves.”

“When this project was initially proposed, the community had not had a full chance to review the concept and provide adequate input. After seeing the updated design, I am happy to see that Breeden will provide a project that meets the communities’ expectations.” – Burrell Corbin, President of the Poplar Hall Civic League

“This project really is a win-win-win for both the City, the community and the developer. It’s a great example of how to leverage private sector development to enhance public improvements” – Bruce Watts, President of the Waverly on Broad Creek Civic League

The proposed apartment project is in the early phases of design. A rezoning of the site needs to occur, and the project needs approval by Norfolk’s Architectural Review Board, Planning Commission, and final approval from the Norfolk City Council.
